Creating a music video is a journey that starts with a seed of an idea and countless hours of editing and revising until it feels just right. My latest project, 'Sign of the Times', was no different.
The video explores relevant social justice issues like racism, poverty, and war through powerful visual metaphors set to Harry Styles’ emotional rendition of the song.
I wanted the video to have a cinematic, epic feel that would match the song’s sweeping soundscape and important message. Choosing the right clips, shots, and editing rhythm to do justice to the hope and heartache conveyed in the lyrics was a challenge, but also the most rewarding part of the process.
After months of sifting through footage, storyboarding, filming, and editing, I believe the finished product captures the spirit and sentiment of our times. The positive feedback I’ve received confirms my hope that it may inspire viewers towards empathy, compassion and understanding.
Creating ‘Sign of the Times’ has reminded me once again of the power of visual storytelling to move people’s hearts and minds, and I look forward to sharing more videos that seek to make a difference in their own small ways.
